The Power Garden was an interactive public installation that made a living garden respond to local touch, environmental sensing, and remote social participation.
The work connected physical plants, sensors, mobile interfaces, and online behavior into a single feedback system.
Naked Juice wanted a public experience around vegetable-based products and community engagement. The risk was creating a display people would pass by rather than a system they could affect.
The stronger interaction model was care: let people touch, water, hear, and follow the garden.
We installed six vegetable varieties in Riverside Plaza and instrumented the garden with touch, motion, and environmental sensors.
Android tablets around the garden played audio cues when visitors touched plants. Tweets with water-related messages triggered the sprinklers, and a live webcam let people follow the garden remotely.
The project created several participation loops at once: touch produced sound, tweets produced water, weekly events produced community presence, and the garden itself produced food.
At the end of the installation, the vegetables were donated through a local culinary partner.
